John Thompson is a vice chairman in Heidrick & Struggles’ San Francisco office and a senior advisor in the global CEO and Board of Directors Practice. He is recognized as one of the most respected CEO and board consultants in the nation having completed more than 200 CEO searches and more than 220 board searches in last 30 years. He works with both public and private boards to recruit new directors and is an advisor on major board restructuring projects.
In 2010, John was the first recipient of Heidrick & Struggles’ global Lifetime Achievement Award. He joined Heidrick & Struggles in 1989 as a partner.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, John was a partner with a regional executive search firm. Before that, he was corporate director of organization development for Atari and a corporate director of organization development at The Williams Companies.Education:
John earned a master of business administration degree and a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the Graduate School of Business at Virginia Tech.
