Tom Murray is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ Boston office and a member of the Global Technology Practice.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Tom was a human resources executive with extensive experience in HR, talent management, and talent attraction. Notably, he was the first chief talent officer for Dell Technologies, responsible for executive talent strategy, talent management, learning and development, and succession planning through the Dell/EMC merger.
Tom played a pivotal role in Dell and EMC’s integration efforts, and was recognized across the company as a strong and trusted advisor to executives and senior leaders. Through his understanding of complex business layers, market competition, talent, and challenges of the business, he drove mission-critical HR strategies to solidify the unique financial and business objectives for the company.
As senior vice president of HR for Dell Technologies, Tom oversaw the HR strategy aligned to the business goals for both the global sales and chief marketing officers. In this role, he led a global team in contributing to the overall company strategy, as well as ensuring that they met their personal career goals supported by the company’s culture code.
Prior to the Dell and EMC merger, Tom served in a dual role as EMC’s chief talent officer and HR business partner to global sales and international HR.
During his tenure at Dell and EMC, Tom was recognized for cultivating a globally inclusive workforce with targeted outreach to diverse candidates, and for his commitment to helping leadership retain talent through strategic rewards, retention initiatives, employee relations, and compensation.
Tom serves on the board of directors for Horizons for Homeless Children, one of the few organizations in Massachusetts focused exclusively on the needs of homeless children and their families.Education:
Tom earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Bates College.
