Nat Sutton serves as Partner and Head of Buffkin/Baker’s Non-Profit Practice, based in the firm’s New York City Office. Nat joined Buffkin/Baker from the New York office of Heidrick & Struggles, where he served as Partner and Vice Chairman of the firm. With over 17 years in executive search, Nat has served major education, arts, cultural, and philanthropic organizations, as well as leading corporations. For seven years, Nat led the Education and Non-Profit Practice of Heidrick & Struggles, where he grew the Practice from $3M to $17M in annual revenue. Some of Nat’s clients include: American Red Cross, Planned Parenthood of New York City, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, University of Iowa, Volunteers of America Greater New York, Hershey Trust Company, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Citigroup/Citibank, Raytheon Company, New England Conservatory of Music, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, Howard University, and Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
Nat is former Vice President and Director of Corporate Communications for Citigroup. At Citi Nat oversaw the corporation’s Internal and External Communications, Investor Communications, New Media, and Creative Services. As head of the Corporate Customer Affairs Group, he developed Citi’s first global customer service strategy and created Citibank’s first five-year public affairs strategy. During his tenure, BusinessWeek recognized the company’s public relations group as one of the world’s ten best.
Nat is a Board Member of the League of American Orchestras, the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA), and the Harvard Business School Club. He is a former Board Member of the American Folk Art Museum, former Board Chair of Opus 118 Harlem School of Music, and a former Trustee of the Metropolitan Opera Guild.
Nat holds a BA from City College of New York and a diploma from Centre d’Etudes Industrielles (now known as the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), located in Lausanne, Switzerland). He also is an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program (AMP).
