Michael Matella is a managing partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ Chicago office and lead of the Global Services Practice, which includes Consulting & Advisory, Business Services, and IT Services & Outsourcing.

Mike overseas the activities of the worldwide network of professionals dedicated to the practice and has extensive global experience in professional services providing clients and the practice with superior strategic management and thought leadership. Mike’s experience includes high-profile assignments placing board directors, CEOs, managing partners, and other senior management positions in all segments within the professional services industry.

His rich and diverse professional services career informs his extensive understanding of the field. Mike also brings expertise to the private equity and industrial sectors, recruiting CEOs and other C-suite leaders. Prior to this role, Mike served as vice chairman, Executive Committee member, and global head of the Professional Services Practice of a global executive search firm. Previous to that role, Mike was also a managing partner with another global search firm where he founded, led, and significantly grew its Global Professional Services Practice.

Mike is experienced at executive search, board effectiveness, and talent management. Before launching his executive search career, Mike spent 18 years in professional services where he was involved in founding and developing numerous greenfield professional services businesses. These included serving as managing partner of human performance North America for Accenture and co-founding and growing the management consulting business to $550 million for Arthur Andersen. At Arthur Andersen, Mike launched the business strategy & transformation, customer relationship management, supply chain, and change management consulting businesses. He also served as general manager and global head of business development for ENTEX Information Services.Education:

Mike graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelor of science degree in business and accounting. He also earned a CPA from the State of Illinois and an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
