Ellen Brown Landers works closely with boards and senior leadership teams at mission-oriented organizations to provide counsel on executive leadership, organizational strategy, and board effectiveness.
Ellen has been with the firm since 1996 and has conducted a wide range of searches for universities and colleges, including chancellors, presidents, provosts, functional vice presidents, general counsels, and deans. She also works with foundations, government agencies, associations, and other nonprofits on executive-level assignments and related consulting.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Ellen Brown Landers served as assistant general counsel for the State Bar of Georgia, handling a wide variety of legal and policy issues for the Bar. Earlier in her career, she practiced law with Smith, Gambrell & Russell.
Ellen is active in professional and community activities serving as an advisory board member and past board chair of the Georgia Justice Project, a member of the Women’s Network at CARE, and a board member at Hands On Atlanta. She is currently a member of the advisory board for the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.Education:
Ellen earned her JD from the University of Georgia School of Law where she served as president of the Student Bar Association, and a BA, with honors, from Wake Forest University. She has completed “Governing for Non-Profit Excellence” at the Harvard Business School.
